Lone Star Park

Located midway between Dallas and Fort Worth on approximately 315 acres on Belt Line Road just north of Interstate-30, Lone Star Park is acknowledged as the crown jewel in Texas' horse racing industry.

Lone Star Park conducts live horse racing during its Spring Thoroughbred Season that typically runs from April to July. The Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships makes its very first appearance in the Southwest when Lone Star Park hosts the prestigious event in October 2004. Lone Star Park will become just the ninth race track to ever host a Breeders' Cup; at only seven years old, it is the youngest track ever to host the event.

Big stakes races are also held at the track, and among the more prominent ones are those held on Texas Mile Day, Lone Star Million Day and Dallas Turf Cup Day.

Lone Star Park encompasses a seven-story, 280,000-square foot Grandstand, a 36,000-square foot simulcast facility, a Saddling Paddock, Jockey Quarters, Barn Area, Parking Area and other amenities catering to family fun entertainment.

Lone Star Park creates a distinct spirit which is smart and elegant in appearance. The race track makes good use of Indian building skills and Spanish baroque forms to produce a uniquely south western style.

History of Lone Star Park

In November 1987, Texans voted in favor of the return of pari-mutuel horse racing to the State.

A huge crowd of 21,754 attended Lone Star Park's grand opening on April 17, 1997, nearly ten years after the historic vote. They wagered more than $1.4 million. Since that day, more than 8.8 million customers have passed through the gates of Lone Star Park and placed bets in excess of $1.7 billion.

Lone Star Park staged one of the most successful inaugural seasons in American racing history. The average daily handle, or money bet, during the inaugural season ($2,394,840 by on and off-track patrons) ranks No. 1 among all major U.S. race tracks built since 1970. The hefty wagering figure was well ahead of those recorded at major thoroughbred and harness racing tracks.

As a follow-up to its impressive first season, Lone Star Park in 1998 became the first race track in modern history to increase its attendance in its second year of operation.

Lone Star Park began Phase I of its $7.8 million expansion plan on November 20, 2002 - a phase that would directly benefit Lone Star Park's regular group of horsemen. Completed prior to the start of the 2003 thoroughbred season were two 50-stall barns (200' x 80'), a 96-stall multipurpose quarantine barn (130' x 260'), six stable area dormitory buildings and two recreation rooms.

Lone Star Park's hosting of the prestigious Breeders Cup Championship in October 2004 serves as a shining testament to the race track's undisputed status as Texas' top horse racing track.
